RENOVATING A 1950’S BUNGALOW

Our magnolia home story

my story

Welcome to our ‘Magnolia Story’, which is the story of a once unloved late 1950’s early 1960’s bungalow, which we purchased in 2014 and transformed into a beautiful North American style home, taking its influence from our time living in Stratford, Ontario.

We always dreamt of building our own home, and would often drive through the Kent Countryside looking for plots of land to buy… but it wasn’t until 2013 on a trip to Canada when we decided it was time to think about downsizing, our old home was a 6-bedroom three story house, but it was just another ‘cookie cutter’ house, in an average close with other similar style homes.

So having sold our home we then started looking at alternatives, and quickly realised that downsizing meant we would be on yet another estate full of exact same houses, and cars parked everywhere! So we decided to think outside the box and found a ‘Fixer Upper’. And if we had just worked with what we brought which was an 850 square foot bungalow typical of its time, we would have downsized… but we decide to knock down 70% and rebuild our DREAM HOME.

So this is our story…
